Greeva Vasti (pronounced Gree-va Vus-ti) is a highly specialized, localized Ayurvedic therapy focused on managing chronic pain, stiffness, and degenerative issues in the neck and upper back region (cervical spine). The term is derived from ‘Greeva’ meaning neck, and ‘Vasti’ meaning container or to hold. The procedure involves creating a dam or reservoir over the back of the neck and filling it with warm, medicated oil or ghee.
Greeva Vasti is the focused treatment for addressing aggravated Vata Dosha (the principal factor in pain and movement disorders) localized in the cervical spine. The deep, sustained heat and medicinal properties of the oil penetrate the muscle, ligament, and disc tissues, providing intensive lubrication, reducing muscle spasms, and enhancing structural integrity.
